Neil Gits Up A Sweat !

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

The only “cool” thing about my show at the moment is the music ! Not every day recently may have been perfect sunbathing weather, but I can assure you it is always HOT in the studio and reminds me of my very early days as a mere youngster, dabbling in radio for the first time, often under far less than ideal conditions, putting up with all sorts of handicaps, just for the love of the tunes. I think a few people reading this will know where I am coming from ;-)   …

Meanwhile, thirty or so years later, here we are reminiscing about “the old days” and playing a few of those tunes that would have been “hot new tunes” back then, this week’s playlist reads as follows:

Andrea True Connection  -  More More More

Change  -  The Very Best In You

BB & Q  -  Imagination

Level 42  -  The Chinese Way

Barry Biggs  -  Side Show

The Limit  -  Pop

Manhattans  -  Shining Star

Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes  -  Wake Up Everybody

Players Association  – I Like It

Sine  -  Just Let Me Do My Thing

Jammers  -  Be Mine Tonight

Incognito  -  After The Fall

And if you missed it on Monday, remember there’s a repeat play at 10pm on Wednesday !

Next recommended “Old Gits Night Out” :

Friday 2nd July, “Zero Radio Soul Night” , Marco’s Bar, Eastwood Road, Rayleigh

Your favourite local soul DJs including Darren Bull play the good stuff !

Times: 8pm till 1am

FREE ADMISSION – EARLY ARRIVAL RECOMMENDED !

Live Jazz Fusion @ Bar Lambs

If you enjoy the show, then the chances are you will like what happens each week here as recommended by a fellow “Old Git” listener Samantha !

Musicians including the likes of Dan Banks & the Zak Barrett Quartet play their own self-penned material from 8.30 – 11.30 at the Lion & Lamb, 270 Station Road, Westcliff-on-Sea, SS0 7SD – and admission is FREE !  Hope to add more details here soon…

Don’t forget, to get in touch with a soul, disco or jazz-funk request for the next show, or to let me know details of any top gigs in the Basildon/East Thurrock area happening soon, send an e-mail to studio@gatewayfm.com or find me on Facebook.

Speak soon,

Neil

Young singer/actress makes BIG return home in her first professional show.

Friday, May 21st, 2010

Basildon singer and actress Jamie Lee Pike returned to her home town in a top stage show at the Towngate Theatre – the place where she caught the acting-bug as a girl.

Jamie, who grew up in Vange, is touring the UK in the ABBA spectacular ’Waterloo!’, which played for one night at the Towngate on Thursday 20 May 2010, and is her first professional engagement.

She attended the theatre many times as a girl and performed as part of a stage school and the Young Americans group. Her love for the theatre and acting ability has now led to this first professional role in the Abba show.

‘Waterloo!’ features six singers and a six piece band and is the largest Abba show which boasts all-live music.  It has been gaining rave reviews around the country.

Gateway FM’s Ros Connors caught up with Jaimie for a brief chat ahead of the performance in Basildon.
