Music news

Daisy Dares You: ‘I’m not like Pixie Lott’

Daisy Dares You has rejected comparisons to Pixie Lott.

The singer, who released debut single ‘Number One Enemy’ on Monday, claimed that the two artists have different musical styles.

Daisy said “I’m new so you can’t blame people for comparing me with others because it takes time to get across who you really are,” .

“I don’t get the similarities with Pixie Lott though. We might be blonde, young and both from Essex, but our music and the concept is different.

“At the end of the day, comparisons should only really be made about the music that we’re making.”

The 16-year-old went on to praise a host of new acts who have emerged recently, claiming that they have brought more variety to the music industry.

“I’ve really liked Delphic ever since I saw them performing with the Friendly Fires last year. I’m a big fan of Hurts too – I got given this really good remix vinyl of theirs the other day, I think they’ll do really well,” she said.

“Everything that is out at the moment is really good, because everyone is a songwriter and doing different things to each other.”

Daisy Dares You recently announced that her debut album will be called Rush.

After a freak accident involving Alvin and Dave Seville, they go and live with Dave’s cool cousin Toby. That means they also have to enrol in school, where they have to deal with the ‘Chipettes’!

The veteran producer, who helmed Coldplay’s 2008 album Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends, told BBC 6 Music that he has forced them out of their comfort zones on the record.

“It’s not rocket science, and it’s not Svengali-ism either,” he explained. “It’s not some attempt to subvert the band, but just to see what other possibilities are lurking within them that might not come out within their normal working situations.”

Describing the group’s latest tracks, he added: “It’s quite different from anything they’ve done before, I think, so far anyway. I don’t know how it will end up being, but it’s very fresh.”

Lady Gaga dating her ‘best friend

Lady Gaga is reportedly dating her ‘best friend’.

The ‘Poker Face’ singer is said to have grown increasingly close to her style collaborator Matthew Williams in recent months, who she previously romanced for over a year.

A source said: “Matthew and Gaga have been dating for months. They were together on and off for more than a year, but called it off when mixing work and love became too difficult.’

After the pair first went their separate ways, Gaga began dating an entrepreneur named Speedy while Matthew started a new relationship and became a father.

However, both romances fizzled out and the former couple have now got back together after growing close on the star’s ‘Monster Ball’ tour.

“The Brits is something I used to watch. It was one of those things that was so massive to me that I didn’t ever watch it thinking, ‘I’m gonna be there one day’. I thought, ‘This is for the stars – it’s not for us’.”

The 22-year-old added that he is backing Florence and The Machine to win big at the awards.

“I’ve met Florence before and she’s so cool,” he said.

“I like her songs, and she’s up for a few things, so hopefully she’ll win something.”

  Music news

Pixie Lott ‘desperate to go on tour’

Pixie Lott has revealed that she is eager to embark on her first headline tour.

The ‘Cry Me Out’ singer, who performed for the Q The Music Club at the Hard Rock Cafe in London, admitted that she wants to play more full sets.

“I’m hoping I will go on tour soon as I want to do as many shows as possible but I don’t know how many we can fit in the schedule,” she told the Daily Star.

“The night before I performed at Hard Rock, I went to bed thinking that every day I have to do promotional work. Then I realised that the next day all I had to do was get up on stage and sing and do what I love.” She added: “I was so excited about performing a full set.”

Lott recently announced that she is working on new material for a US release of her debut album Turn It Up.

Dolly Parton gets up at 3am make-up for husband

Dolly Parton gets up at 3am to put her make-up on. The country singer – who has had a number of cosmetic surgery procedures, including having her breasts enlarged to a 40DD cup – still takes a great deal of pride in her appearance at 64 and likes to look perfect for her husband Carl Dean when he wakes up.

Dolly – who has been wed to Carl for 44 years – said: ‘I usually get up at 3am. I don’t require a lot of sleep and if I get tired, I’ll take a powernap during the day.

‘When my Carl is awake, I’ll put on my make-up and roll my hair a little, because I don’t want to look bad for him, do I?’

Dolly also insists she never had sex with anyone to further her career when she was starting out in the tough, male dominated country music industry.

Victoria Beckham has ‘I’m Too Sexy’ ring tone

Victoria Beckham has Right Said Fred’s ‘I’m Too Sexy’ as her mobile phone ring tone.

The former Spice Girl’s husband, soccer star David Beckham, decided to ‘take the mickey and change the settings on her handset so the 90s pop anthem blasts out every time she receives a call.

She told Love magazine: ‘It was David who set my phone up to play Right Said Fred. Honestly – he’s trying to take the mickey and I can’t change it because I’m rubbish with phones.’

Instead, the singer-turned-fashion designer is left shame-faced when her phone goes off in a public place.

She explained: ‘I’ll be at the gym and suddenly I’ve got Right Said Fred playing and I’m mortified.’

The 35-year-old star – who has sons Brooklyn, 11, Romeo, seven, and four-year-old Cruz with David – also revealed although the couple are very happy together they don’t always share the same passions.

Film Review

The Princess and the Frog at vue cinema

Based on a new story by producer Lionel Wigram using Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous characters, the film follows Sherlock Holmes (Downey Jr) and his loyal assistant Dr Watson (Law) as they deal with a mysterious new nemesis: Lord Blackwood (Strong), a cult leader and Satanist who harbours the most deadly of intentions. Abandoning the accepted portrayals of Holmes and Watson, as perfected by Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce in the films of the 1930s and ’40s, # Downey Jr’s Holmes is a modern, bohemian man of action and intellect, while Law’s Watson is no longer the bumbling fool of old, but a much sharper character with an eye for the ladies and a taste for gambling. The classic fairytale gets an updated twist in Disney’s animated musical comedy set in the French quarter of  the city of New Orleans. Transformed into a frog by the evil voodoo man Dr Facilier, Prince Naveen from the land of Maldonia goes in search of a princess to  break the spell. He finds a young African-American girl called Tiana and, mistaking her for a princess, asks her for a restorative kiss.

Youth In Revolt age 15 showing at empire cinemas basildon.

A refreshingly grown-up comedy about a couple who strike up an affair – years after their divorce.

A decade after their marriage break-up, restaurant owner Jane (Meryl Streep) and attorney Jake (Alec Baldwin) are amicable friends who have moved on with their lives. But problems set in when the pair find themselves out of town attending their son’s graduation.
An innocent meal together rekindles their romance and turns into an uncontrollable love affair.
With Jake remarried to the much younger Agness (Lake Bell), Jane realises she has become the ‘other woman’!
Stuck in the middle of their restored love story is goofy architect Adam (Steve Martin) who is trying his best to woo Jane, much to Jake’s annoyance.
