Today 3rd November 2009
Sarcoidosis Awareness Society.
This support and information group has been set-up from the frustration of lack of support and information of the disease or Sarcoidosis. Martine came in today and has spoken about the initial experiences that lead to a diagnosis of Sarcoidosis. I appears there is a lack of knowledge and information within many medical practices including hospitals, consultants and GP’s and currently there are only two Sarcoidosis clinics in the UK at the Royal Free Hospital and The Brompton in London.
Martine gave a detailed description of the implications of this disease and is aiming to educate through an education programme alongside South West Essex Primary Care Trust throughout the NHS. This organisation has been involved in giving a petition to Downing Street.
You can find further details at
http://www.uksarcoid.org/, the helpline is 0808 186 1886.
The next local support group for those affected by Sarcoidosis (including carer and family members) is Saturday 30th January 2010 and the last Saturday every month thereafter at Luncies Road Basildon in the Wooden Hut on the Left.
