Police are giving letters and Bluetooth messages to residents in Wickford’s Castledon area after ten houses were burgled there since the beginning of the month.
The letters contain important advice to residents after most of the burglaries saw cars being stolen from the driveway after thieves broke into the houses to get the keys to the vehicle.
From Monday, November 30, officers will also be at Wickford and Billericay railway stations armed with a device that will send a video clip with crime prevention messages on how to combat burglaries to mobile phones. It is hoped that they will educate commuters on their way home on how to secure their homes properly, should they choose to accept the Bluetooth message.
From November 1-23, there have been ten burglaries in the Castledon area. Six victims had their cars stolen from the driveway after the burglar broke into the house to get the keys. Police believe that the burglars attempted to steal three more cars, but were unsuccessful.
Police also are carrying out high-visibility and covert patrols in the area, as well as utilising the latest technological and forensic support available to teams. As well as that they are also reminding people with UPVC doors to make sure they throw the handle upwards and physically lock it with a key.
