Basildon Council’s ‘Get Back Into Netball’ scheme has been such a hit that it’s been made a permanent feature.
The scheme ran for eight weeks in the autumn, funded by Sport Essex and Basildon Council’s ‘Get Out There!’ project. It was aimed at women who have not played netball for some time due to family or work commitments and gave the opportunity to get back into the sport, improve fitness and skills and meet others in the process.
Councillor Kevin Blake, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Arts, said, “The ‘Get back into’ project has been a huge success and its very rewarding to see people come back into a sport having not played it for such a long time. The numbers of residents who have taken up this opportunity means we are now able to offer it on a more permanent basis”.
The sessions will now take place every Thursday from 7.30pm – 8.30pm at Gloucester Park North in Basildon and are available at £2.00 a session. There is also a session running earlier in the day at 9.30am – 10.30am at the Markhams Chase Leisure Centre in Laindon.
